Art director Salvador Tavora the Maestro of Spanish art Theatre The Carmen of prosper Merimee’s novel and Georges Bizet’s opera is far away from this Andalusian flamenco spectacle. This one is staged with a rousing bugle and drum band from the real Carmen’s Seville neighbourhood of Triana, along with tow brilliant flamenco guitarists. The tragic tale is told by flamenco song callers, as the main characters dance spectacular seguirillas and alegrias and bulerias. It flares with heterosexual passion and machismo. This inspired theatre work is presented in the form of a 19th century spectacle, but with sublime moments of drama. Its staging is exotic, it is sung in Spanish, the music is strident and different, and while the central themes of blood and love and death are obvious to all. Central to the production are the 24 buglers and drummers, the thunderous stamp of the flamenco dancers and at one stage a horse. Total artist: 40 Total travelling: 46 |
